"Thank You's"

Hump Day is almost over and I just had a moment of clarity! Yes, I had a "blonde moment" and the clarity hit me in the bathroom. I don't understand why these moments as well as great ideas pop-up while in this one place!

I was thinking, "why do they call Wednesday "hump day" when there are 7 days in the week so it should be Thursday?" Then all of a sudden it came to me...it's because most of us work M-F and the middle day is Wednesday! Dah!!!

Well, my day went rather smoothly with putting in about 5 hours and then going to the gym for a 45 minute workout. I arrived home to find my hubby watching Get Smart so to spend some time with him before he had to go to bed I sat and watched with him until I dosed off and before I knew it he'd gone to bed. I was probably snoring as I usually do if I fall asleep on the sofa and it makes him tired! I'm the good form of a sleeping aid!

Dinner was nothing exciting, just some pasta w/veggies and then time for the People's Choice Awards. The show was ok...the jokes sucked and Alec Baldwin lost out to Steve Carrell for Best Actor in a comedy. I just love Alec and if you haven't seen It's Complicated you should. He's hilarious! Finally, watched the news to find out just how cold it's going to get tonight with my son hoping it is so frozen in the morning that he won't have school! Ha! Keep hoping buddy! Apparently it's suppose to get in the low 20's with a wind chill in the teens and not go above 27 tomorrow and Friday! Ok, my window is gonna open because my husband will have the damn heater cranked up so high I may suffocate!

Now, let's talk "Thank You" cards! How many of you actually sit down and write these after you've been given a gift? or have you ever? If there is one thing my mother taught me was etiquette. I've been writing TU's and letters all my life! I believe that due to the influx of technology (i.e. email, texting, twitter and internet) the majority of our manners have flown out the window and everyone just excepts it! The subject of manners and etiquette opens an entire flood gate of areas I could go into but lets just stick with the TU's for now.

Handwritten notes are a fading past-time that I believe we should all begin to really integrate back into our lives as well as our children. It is amazing the impression a simple note can make and it only takes a few moments of our time. I just finished writing all of mine for the gifts, whether it was small or large, I received from friends and family and it took me no more than 15 minutes to write 8 of them. All you need are some nice and inexpensive cards that you can purchase at any discount store and a pen. Start with Dear ??? and then write 3 sentences including what they gave you and what you are doing with it. For example, if you received a gift card let them know what you purchased or plan to purchase with it, same with cash. It's really easy and you'll feel really good about yourself plus the satisfaction of knowing the receiver will know you truly cared about them and the gift!

Now, come on! Get those pens moving across the paper and let's all keep this past-time in the now-time! (that's a little funny!) Texting, twitting, emailing, etc. are not acceptable forms of "Thank You's" in receipt of gifts!

Hope you all had a great day and I'll be back tomorrow!

  1. I totally agree on the importance of thank you's. Even so, I forget sometimes. That feeling of putting your heart into doing something for someone and knowing it was appreciated makes you want to do more acts of kindness for people. It is just the right thing to do :)I actually have one to write tonight.See ya !
